Independent? Me? No way! I am not a carpenter or a computer guru; I am neither a mechanic nor a neurosurgeon. Sometimes I can’t even remember which way to turn a light bulb or spin a lug nut; but I do know who does know – and I call on them for help – all the time.
All due respect to Thoreau, pretending I am self sufficient – trying to do everything myself – would leave me trying to invent the wheel, the loom, the bow and arrow the pen, paper, the computer, the telephone.
Everything I use to do everything I do was invented and built by someone else. I can do nothing on my own or of myself except maybe breathe. Heck I would have had to invent kissing if I hadn’t let my wife show me how!
The more I depend on others to help me, the more free and independent I am. Go figure!
